Why Proctoring Matters

An independent credential means nothing if the examination behind it can be gamed. Employers who verify an ATC credential in our public registry are trusting that the person named on the certificate sat the exam themselves, alone, without unauthorized help. Trained proctors observe candidates in real time throughout the timed attempt — video, audio, and screen. Proctors can pause an exam, intervene, or terminate an attempt on the spot when the integrity of the session is compromised.

ID Verification at Check-In

Before the exam is released, each candidate presents a government-issued photo ID on camera. The proctor confirms the ID matches the registered candidate, and the verification is logged to the attempt record. No match, no exam.

Record & Review

Every session is recorded from check-in to submission. Flagged events are time-stamped for post-exam review by the registrar's office, so a questionable moment can be re-examined exactly as it happened — days or weeks later.

Automated flags — additional faces, off-screen glances, audio events, focus changes — are layered on top of the live proctor's own observations. Every attempt carries a complete audit trail supporting the credential decision.

How a Proctored Attempt Works

  1. Check-in and identity verificationThe candidate joins their scheduled session, presents photo ID on camera, and completes an environment scan. The proctor verifies identity against the registration record.
  2. Integrity agreement confirmedThe candidate's signed Examination Integrity Agreement is confirmed on file before the exam is released.
  3. Live-monitored examinationThe timed attempt proceeds under continuous observation. Automated flags and proctor notes accumulate on the attempt record in real time.
  4. Post-exam reviewFlagged events, if any, are reviewed against the session recording before the result is finalized and the credential is issued to the registry.

What Candidates Should Expect

Candidates need a computer with a working webcam and microphone, a government-issued photo ID, and a quiet, private room.
